A European Quartet statement to support mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza

The Foreign Ministers of the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy issued a joint statement expressing their strong support for efforts by the United States, Egypt and Qatar to broker a ceasefire and release the hostages.

The statement indicated that they are optimistic about the positive approach taken so far in these efforts

The Ministers welcomed the continuation of technical work over the coming days, including addressing humanitarian aspects and specific arrangements regarding hostages and detainees. It was also announced that senior officials will meet before the end of next week with the aim of reaching an agreement.

The statement stressed the need for all parties involved in this process to continue in a positive and flexible manner, stressing the importance of avoiding any escalation in the region that would threaten the chances of peace.
